Why People Donate to the Food Bank

One of our sister foodbanks in California polled its supporters, among businesses, community groups, and individuals, as to why they give to the food bank. The responses are heart-warming and illuminating:

- I’ve been homeless and hungry myself. I wish that on no one. God bless and I pray things get better.

- Everyone deserves a place to live, clean drinking water and nourishing food. Everyone!

- I was once a customer. May we take care of those in need for we are here.

- No man, woman or child should go without food in our great nation. I wish I could do more for those in need.

- My son is mentally ill, homeless off and on and is always hungry. We help him when we can and want to help others like him.

- Knowing that other people are going without food when I have so much makes me ashamed. I feel I have a responsibility to help.

- It’s not how much you give that’s important. What’s important is that you give.

- No one should be hungry. But in such a rich and successful area it is a shame that people do not have enough to eat. Food is such a basic need it should be accessible to every person.

- The idea of hungry children, incapable of being all their rich potential allows because they are too hungry to function, or seniors who suffer food insecurity, or families working 2-3 jobs just to pay rent and utilities breaks my heart and it should not happen here. But sadly it does and it’s up to me to help in any way I can. And I wish I could give more.

- The cost of living is extremely high causing middle income families who use to live comfortably to suffer financially. Hopefully my donation helps individuals suffering financially with their food supply.

- I am blessed with plenty of good food and want to share with others who may not have enough.

- Because we pretty much have all we need and we give back by donating and volunteering!
